FABRIC DESCRIPTION

Description on the basis of microscopical observation of the fabric to x30 (see images of the fresh section above and table below):

The fabric is greenish pale to pink firing with a grey core. It contains a medium amount of inclusions, which is not sorted. The fabric shows traces of insufficient blending of the clay and inclusions. The sherds have an average of 3 on Mohs’ scale: above the average hardness of the fabrics. The presence of voids from former organic inclusions is striking. The predominant Munsell colour is 2.5 Y 7/2 (light grey). After refiring at 800 °C the colour becomes 10 YR 7/3 (very pale brown), and 5 YR 6/8 (reddish yellow) after refiring at 1050 °C. The grayish core has disappeared.

This fabric is related to SAT I.AD.ns(1-4).a, ((extremely) large) FeMn nodules / crumbling / gritty.
